Frogman Returns Review (Unnamed Footage Festival 2026)

Time to croak, bitch!
We kicked off our coverage for Unnamed Footage Festival with an the iconic return to Loveland, the home of Frogman. Written and directed by Anthony Cousins, with John Karsko as co-writer, the film picks up almost two years after the first film with Dallas (Nathan Tymoshuk) and Amy (Chelsea Grant) now on the outs with each other. The film primarily follows Dallas, now hosting a reality show hunting other cryptids, when he's drawn back to Loveland to find Amy.
Feeling a lot less than the well known gritty found footage style of the first film, the sequel feels more grounded and visually cleaner than before. Armed with a balanced script and strong performances from the entire cast, Frogman Returns is a solid followup.
The story takes on a whole new level once we get to the final act that has us excited to see what Cousins is cooking up next in this universe. More Frogman? More cryptids? All we know is that we are in for the ride, whatever that looks like.
Frogman Returns has a bigger budget and bigger stakes. Does it get a little goofy at times? Sure. But it's a vibe and tonally on par with what to expect from this now budding franchise. In an interview with Sharai Bohannon, Cousins stated how the idea of Frogman returning was originally a joke and he had no real intentions of making a sequel, but we are so glad he did.
