Heritage Review (Unnamed Footage Festival 2026)

What's not to love about a family cult story? Especially one that doesn't hold back when you expect it to. Written, directed, and edited by Baptist Agostini-Croce, Heritage delves into family secrets by taking viewers on a journey through a family home and the empty streets of a town in Croatia.
Heritage follows a brother and sister, Marie (Marie Bolbenes) and Daniel (Daniel Di Grazia). The two are visiting their estranged grandfather (Philippe Ambrosini) while their parents are dealing with a divorce. As the siblings explore the house, Marie comes across an old camera that the pair begins to use as a way to document their adventure.
Agostini-Croce uses the familiarity of found footage to set up that makings of what almost feels like a family video. It's grassroots but not so bad that you can't follow what is happening, which makes sense since it was filmed on a camera from the early 2000s. Some scenes take you back to those early times of found footage and reminded us of Blair Witch and The Visit, which I believe speaks to how well done the storytelling is.
The final scene of Heritage is one for the books. I'm quite suprised at just how far Agostini-Croce was willing to go here but it was well worth it and he delivers a strong ending. I'd love to see what he could do with a segment in the VHS franchise. If this is the kind of horror coming out of Croatia, sign me up.
